ABOUT What is the purpose of Welcome to Danmark

Welcome to Danmark offers online and in-person Danish language lessons for everyone.

Denmark is one of the happiest countries in the world, that with its high standard of living, stable work life balance and overall security in society attracts a high number of well-educated expats and their families. However, Denmark is also one of the toughest countries to settle in. In fact, the yearly Expat Insider Survey Reports of 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2014 all show the same result: Denmark is the top most difficult place in the world to settle in resulting in either expats leaving the country or living an unhappy personal life.

Yes, I know this is all a bit depressing, but the good news is that it isn’t impossible to settle in Denmark and manage to be happy. The Oxford Research Survey 2020 shows that the top 3 reasons that could make expats stay longer are the following:

Better Danish language skills (51%)
Better career opportunities for me (49%)
A better social network (45%)

My name is Adil and I founded Welcome to Danmark, because I saw a need to combine Danish language learning with cultural understanding to help expats settle in Denmark.

My team of teachers are energetic, outgoing, empathetic, independent, structured, curious and happy. It is crucial for us to establish a good relationship with our students so that we can understand their needs, what motivates them and what their learning style is so that we can teach them in the most optimal way. In our teaching there is room for both failure and victory. There is room to be curious and to ask questions. There is room to laugh and play because learning has to be fun. And there is room to be challenged.

Our teaching approach is first and foremost about understanding which learning style works best for the student and what interests him/her by getting to know them . After that, we work out a teaching plan focusing on the student’s needs and interests. If we talk about things that are relevant and of interest to the student, then the student will be motivated and engaged.
We teach with a great deal of commitment because we love what we do which reflects on our students.

MEET THE TEACHERS Emilie, Vasanthi & Adil

With Emilie you have the opportunity to have a fun and enjoyable class, which helps you through the difficulties of learning a new language.
She has an informal, but organised approach to teaching danish.
She will engage each student with a personalised schedule to maximise your potential.

It is important for her to understand the students needs and learning style, so she can teach the best way possible.
Depending on your level, she is focusing on everyday language and conversation, so you can start speaking danish right away!

Her focus is to involve her students so they feel well equipped for the challenge of speaking danish.
She will focus on pronunciation, visual aids when teaching, and a good connection with the student in order to strengthen and make the journey enjoyable. There is always room for curiosity and questions!

Mainly, her teaching is through dialogue, but the needed grammar will follow along, so you gain the confidence right away !

Vasanthi lives in Copenhagen with her 7-year old son. She gained teaching and cross-cultural experience from local and global context at language schools, organizations and elementary schools. She values the relationships and connections with the students, so they feel appreciated as individuals in the process of learning.

It’s important for her to create a safe environment with positive communication in the classroom, so the students feel motivated to speak and engage them in conversation. To set up a welcoming atmosphere in which the students can open up and share their opinions and thoughts, so they play an active role in class.

With her linguistic background she also focus on the proper sounds, fluency and grammar to improve the student’s speaking comprehension.

From her many travels all around the world, she has learned that the best way to learn a new language is by speaking, speaking, speaking! Therefore, she focuses on teaching through dialogue so that you learn to use the language in your everyday life.
